my name is Everard Bakker, and I am coming from Holland. In 2001, I started to write about a Dutch Royal Marines who was during World War II airgunner and served the Dutch 320 Squadron RAF.
This man, Mr Jonker, is still alive. He is 88 years old and has a really good mind. He is living in the house of Dutch veterans in Arnhem Holland, called Bronbeek. Look for more information about Bronbeek; ( www.bronbeek.nl )
Till today I'm still working (in my freetime) of this unbelieveable life-story. And I still can confirm that his life-story has really took place.
In 1941 and 1942 the Dutch 320 squadron was serving Coastal Command RAF. They flew from Scotland/ Leuchars.
The airgunners made flights with the Lockheed Hudson, from sometimes 8 hours!
Why do I send this message to you?
I searched on the internet and found out that in Coolangatta, is a museum with a original Lockheed Hudson.
This Lockheed Hudson has also a original turret. For the book of Mr Jonker I have searched around the world for a Lockheed Hudson with a original turret.
I am very interesting of pictures of the interior of that Lockheed Hudson, especially from the turret.
could you help me? Do you know some one who can help me with pictures of that interior/ turret of that Lockheed Hudson?
Yours Sincereley,
Everard Bakker

Information requested please!
My wife and I arrived at Sydney Airport on the 23rd of
September 1965 from Amsterdam by DC8, from there on the same day we flew on to Melbourne possibly on a Lockheed Electra L-188. Than that same day to continue from Melbourne to Adelaide also possibly on a L-188.
Does anyone knows what planes they were and which operator?
Any info much appreciated.

I have a photo of myself in what I believe is the fairly intact wreckage of a Lockheed Lightning taken in 1972 in the swamps outside Port Moresby, in what was then the Territory of Papua and New Guinea. Bullet holes are clearly visible in the port side props which were still intact at the time. The aircraft I understand was subsequently removed from the swamps around the mid 70's.

I have just found the Altair "Lady Southern Cross" on flightsim.com. If the real thing was as pleasant to fly as the simulator one, I regret that I was born too late to own one. Thank you for the privilege.

Was a flight attendant on Evergreen's two pax Electra's
flying on the West coast in late 79'.Flew with some great pilots like Ray Hoag,Chuck Hendry,Don Ufford and Pen Sthor.
To say nothing of some super flight attendants lead by Stevie Chambers the Chief Flight Attendant for Evergreen at the time.
Since then I have flown all the DC-8's,B707,B727,B747-200B and now the Airbus A320.But still think the L-188C to be the best of the best no doubt about it.

Hi, I was actually just typing my father's name into a search engine to see what would come up, and I found this link. My dad, Don Ufford, flew Electra's for Evergreen Airlines for several years, but I really don't know a whole lot about that time in his life. He passed away two years ago, and I really regret not trying to find out a bit more from him. I do know that he really loved that plane though. If anyone knew him or flew with him back then I'd really like to hear from you.
Thanks,

I was with the RAAF for 25 years and was in the Engineering Section. We were engaged in one of the largest repair and maintenance on C130E Hercules undertaken in peace time by the RAAF. This was the Wing Rehabilation Programe carried out by 2Aircraft Depot from 1970 1977. When we went to Locheed in America they laughed at us when we told them we were going to attempt this Engineering feat in Australia. The reply was let us know when you have finished the first one and we will come to have a look at your work. Well we did the whole fleet and we took the wings apart to the last nut and bolt. It was so successful that we went through the fleet a second time and replaced all the Spar Caps. The expetise of this job was really marvellous and the RAAF should have been telling everyone what a wonderful job the Aircraft Metal Workers, Airframe Fitters and other trades had carried out. Today there is not one mention of this feat on all the Web pages that have been published br the RAAF. The RAAF Historical Section should be ashamed of themselves for not having recorded this wonderful Engineering feat. The Tradesmen who carried out this work have now all left the service. Some of us still remember the dedication to the Aircraft Industry.

I was taken by my Dad (he was in the freight forwarding business) to watch the first Conny passenger service to land at Kingsford Smith, Sydney. We were on the aircraft as soon as the last passenger disembarked. I can still "smell" the "newness" of the aircraft and remember the brown and golden tones and warmth of the interior and was overawed by the experience!

Just been reading the exploits of Geoffrey Charles Atherton DFC & Bar on your web site, there is a heroic tale relating to Geoff on my website http://splashdown2.tripod.com/. If you then click on to Service Personnel Names........there are also a couple of photos of Connies at Colombo airport from the late 1950's. Thanks also for a nice site!

Was a flight attendant on the Electra with Evergreen International Airlines on the west coast. The two aircraft were once with Western Airlines, N7136C and
N7137C.We flew them from San Diego (SAN) to Seattle (SEA) through all kinds of weather, heat, rain, sleet and snow and you could count on the Electra.
The EIA Electra's carried 94 pax in a one class cabin and two f/a's.It was great! We would see the same passnges over and over again.I remember one passenger
who would bake the crew cookies on more than once,it
was a real treat!
Any way since then I have flown most eveything up to
the Boeing 747-200.But realy the Electra is by far the one plane I would love to crew again bar none.
If their are any Evergreen Electra crew members from the SAN base let me know or know the whereabouts of the following,Capt.Chuck Hendry,Ray Hogue,Don Ufford,
and Chief Flight Attendant Stevie Chambers,Carla
Dern let me know please.
Thanks

I just finished watching a TV program about the restoration of VH-EAG (N4115Q). WELL DONE! BEAUTIFUL! I've been in love with "Connie" since I first saw her fly in the early 1960's. She flew out of the Mercer County Airport near Trenton, New Jersey until the mid 60's. I don't know where she is today. Give Connie a big kiss for me.

I owned the only Lockheed AL60 in Australia for some time. It was the only single engined aircraft of the time that you could fit 5 x 200lt drums into! (empty of course). Of other wierd loads it carried was motorbikes, dogs, goats, rams, fence posts, bee hives, chooks (did they know they were doing 110kts without flapping?), the list goes on....
Interested in any photos?

Trying to find info relating to wreckage of aircraft I photographed at Kapingamarangi Atoll in 1969 (underwater). It could be a Hudson from Rabaul. Locals say it had just released a bomb which was then struck by a Japanese bullet fired from the weather station being attacked. The bomb exploded and destroyed the aircraft. I'm stuck for new web sites to follow through. Any tips appreciated. JH

Just adding to my earlier comments about my many memorable experiences flying VH-ANR.In June 1970 we were on the last sector of a 12 day tour around Australia. We had overnighted Broken Hill & the leg was direct to Sydney tracking over Parkes at 9000 ft in & out of cloud. My F/o John Wilson had just selected carby heat when suddenly the port engine failed except for idle revs. As Parkes Airport was directly below us I featherd the engine & landed at Parkes. We had 28 passengers plus a crew of 4 including our engineer on board. When the engine cowls were removed finally we saw the cause.Under the top air intake cowl above the carburettor was a wash room type towel covering 90% of the carby intake of air.It was thought the paper blew in between the top cylinders during the very windy overnight we had at Broken Hill while parked into wind. This was similar to a bird strike I had in a Fokker F27 which blocked our port engine oil cooler radiator which very quickly caused the oil temperature to rise above the maximum reading which resulted in the feathering of the engine. On landing at the nearest airport I climbed to the top of the Rolls Royce Dart & removed parts of an eagle.I hope some of this history about the many happy experiences I had flying my old girl friend,as I often called VH-ANR are of interest to all of you aviation buffs.Regards Don Gillies,101 Prince Charles Road,Frenchs Forest N.S.W. 2086.

I served with Colonel Henry C. Godman in Spain when he was in command of the 3973rd Combat Support Group. In addition to being the base commander, Col. Godman was my flight instructor and I ultimately became licensed after he released me for my first solo flight. I spent some time having his last name spelling on the Moron AB, Spain history page of the website corrected. They spelled his name "Goodman". I am happy that the spelling was finally corrected. I am amazed to read the history of "Hank" in connection with his being the pilot of Gen. Macarthur. I was never aware of that part of his life.

Hi, came across your website. Just retired as ATCO in Amsterdam. Started as aircraft spotter in 1962. Saw 2 L1049 at Schiphol Amsterdam. VH-EAG april 11th 1963 and VH-EAO sept 8th 1962. Have 2 4*4 cm negatives of one of them.
Dont know the reason for the aircraft being in Amsterdam. Think it must have to with migrant flights or with the political situation between the Netherlands and Indonesia about New Guinea (a former Dutch colony).
Hope to hear from you
Thank you
Nanne
