"Seek and Strike"
is the motto of No 75 Squadron RAAF. Although it was principally
a P-40 Kittyhawk outfit, David Wilson's history of this famous
Australian squadron also refers to their brief operation of the
Lockheed F-4 Lightning.
Formed in early 1942
when Australia did not have a single fighter squadron on the Australian
mainland, 75 Squadron deployed to New Guinea within two weeks
of its formation. For a remarkable 44 days, 75 Squadron alone
defended New Guinea. The squadron later operated Meteors, Sabres
and Mirages. Today it operates the F/A-18A Hornet.
