This
image of Neptune A89-309 at Canton Island was provided by Les Golder
whose father, WOFF Fred Golder, was an Armament Fitter in the RAAF.
His service record states that he was assigned to RAAF Washington from
28 September 1959 until 29 December 1959 for duty on the "Neptune
Ferry Flight". This duty would have been associated with the modification
program to fit jet pods to the RAAF Neptunes. Under this program, all
eleven remaining Neptunes were ferried to the USA departing Australia
between 25 June 1959 and 25 September 1959. This picture of A89-309
was obviously taken on the return trip as the aircraft is fitted with
jet pods.
