On 17 November 2006 the C-130H aircraft passed from 36 Sqn to 37 Sqn, both at Richmond NSW, as 36 Sqn began transitioning to the C-17 Globemaster III.

It was announced in the 2012-1013 Budget handed down on 09MAY12 that all of the remaining 8 C-130H still in service would be retired on 30 June 2012.

On 2 July 2012, Australia and Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding on the transfer of four C-130H aircraft to Indonesia. It has been reported that the aircraft involved are A97-001, 003, 010 and 012.

The 2012-2013 Budget stated that the remaining 8 C-130H would be retired. This implies that only 4 are currently withdrawn from service (see Issue #7 below). Aircraft known to be WFS as of May 2010 are A97-001, 010 & 012.
