Barely visible in
the centre of the image, the Lady Southern Cross departs Wheeler
Field for Oakland on 3 November 1934. (Click here if you can't find
it) The two biplanes in the immediate foreground are Curtiss A-3 Falcons
of the 26th Attack Squadron, which was based at Wheeler. The twin-engined
biplane is most likely a Keystone B-6A of the 23rd or 72nd Bomb Squadron
from Luke Field. The twin-engined monoplane is a Douglas Y1C-26 Dolphin
amphibian, several of which were based at Wheeler for air-sea rescue
duties. |
