In his
book Pacific Flight, Bill Taylor described the lack of space
for personal luggage in the Altair. "Smithy's luggage is a tooth-brush.
I feel a traitor because I have shaving-kit and pyjamas." What
Bill didn't mention is his trusty Leica camera which he is using to
record the scene at Wheeler Field. Clearly he was smart enough not
to leave his precious 1916 flying helmet unattended in the cockpit!
The Leica camera is to this day a treasured possession of the Taylor
family. |
