Hudson
VH-SMO at Essendon on 21 December 1963. This image well illustrates
the variation of nose glazing across the Adastra fleet. Hudson VH-AGS
in the background was the only Hudson in the Adastra fleet to retain
the original four nose compartment windows. At the other extreme, VH-SMO
featured a nose compartment door which was originally installed c1949
by Curtis Madsen Aircrafts Pty Ltd to facilitate loading baggage in
the nose compartment. Evidently this door has been rendered inoperable
as the hinges and door handle have been removed. Curiously, by the time
the aircraft was finally retired as VH-AGP, the door was again fully
functional. Judging by the amount of oil on the port engine, it could
be speculated that VH-AGS had arrived to replace VH-SMO.
