Boeing 707-138 VH-EBD taking-off to the north at Avalon in September 1959. Photographer, Bill Fishwick recalls: "This was a late afternoon take-off on return to Sydney. I was on afternoon shift the day before, and the aircraft EBD finished flying at around 11 pm that night. When it taxied in, I was told to do a landing gear inspection. The # 1 rear brake rotors were so hot they were glowing white. I placed a fire extinguisher behind the gear in case a fire started and went on with the inspection. As EBB had previously had a 'hot truck' and truck change due to loss of grease from the wheel bearings, I suggested to the Leading Hand that we remove the wheel for a bearing inspection. I was told not to worry. The brake took a long while to cool down. The aircraft went on training and left the next afternoon for Sydney. After arrival it was found to have a hot truck on #1 rear wheel." Photo: Bill Fishwick Collection
